This smaller double bass features elements of masters Guarneri, Guadagnini and Pressenda. The unmistakable Italian elegance of the outline is not only beautiful in appearance, but easy to get around from the bottom to the top. And years of acoustic research and the selection of highly resonant spruce and poplar ensure that the low end has both profundity and definition, in spite of its convenient size.
Materials: Book-matched spruce (picea abies) from the Eggental Valley of South Tirol, Italy. North American poplar (populus deltoides, or Cottonwood) sides, back and neck. Premium German ebony fingerboard, tailpiece and cork-lined endpin with removable screw tip. Tomastik Belcanto medium strings. Brass and stainless steel tuning machines hand-made by Andrew Brown. Oil varnish with shellac finish. Sold, September, 2024.
“This instrument is simply wonderful. I’ve had the opportunity to play it in the Legacy hall at the RiverCenter in Columbus Georgia. The Nr. 5 Guarneri model IS a masterpiece. Every detail of the instrument was given excellent care. The instrument works perfectly and has a brilliant timbre. Very warm, and it projects like a beast; it really fills out the concert hall for solo works. The resonance is no joke too… Every pitch is accounted for with this bass, and it plays perfectly up and down. I can really feel the clarity and I have full confidence this can be a lifelong companion.” -Kellum Jones, Owner
